It is obvious that you've never been followed or mistreated by the police. I drive a Honda Civic hybrid. My tags are current, my license plates are not hard to see, and it does not take several blocks to see them, nor had I committed any crime to warrant this treatment. Darrin Lyons was simply walking to his car to go home after work. He also did not do anything to warrant his treatment - he is a law-abiding citizen who has contributed much to this community. Is there a curfew by which we have to be home in order to be treated fairly? How would you like it if the police came up to you for no reason, took money out of your purse, and asked you where you got it? Thank you for your comment, but please, place yourself in other people's shoes, and maybe you will be able to see things more clearly. I would not want this happening to any other citizen, and I'm quite sure you wouldn't want this happening to yourself. You both were out late at night in an area that has increasing burglaries, I'm glad they were being vigilant. There is NOTHING wrong with running plates while on patrol- that's part of their job. They need their high beams to help read the license plates. And if license plates don't show up in their system, it usually means something is wrong. If you keep hounding the police for doing their job you are going to scare them off from doing police work and we will be right back where we were with increasing crime in Altadena. I am pleasantly surprised that the Altadena Sherriffs are finally stepping up their police work to deal with the increase in crime. I thought the new Captain and his assistant handled the incident quite well. I also know that in order to really enjoy our small community to the fullest, the sheriff's department must crack down on criminal activities. In order to do that more incidents like the one you faced may be forthcoming, but as long as the officers are professional and treat all our citizens with respect we can put up with a little inconvenience in order to have a safer community. Captain McLean stated that security was being beefed up due to the increasing amounts of theft in the area, such as cars being broken into. He mentioned that many have been leaving their cars unlocked. He also stated that increased resources have been brought in to counter the thefts, which have now decreased them significantly.
