Student/Teacher of the Month Programs
I have set up a Student of the Month and a Teacher of the Month program for participating schools in Altadena that is set to launch this fall. Each month, we will select one student and one teacher from each school and recognize them for their achievements. At the end of the year, we will hold a banquet to honor these recipients and will select a Student of the Year and Teacher of the Year. I hope to send a clear message to our students and teachers that we value education and hard work. The recognized students and teachers will receive a certificate, T-shirt, and gifts provided by local businesses. Many thanks to the businesses who have provided either gift certificates or discounts towards this program. Sponsors will be recognized on the backs of the T-shirts.
Note: Due to some confusion that has arisen among the Altadena Town Council, I would like to emphasize that these programs are not endorsed by, or affiliated with, the Altadena Town Council. The Altadena Student and Teacher of the Month programs are operating under a for-profit corporation. Contributions are not being accepted at this time.

Criteria for Student of the Month Selection
1. Punctuality and attendance
2. Positive attitude towards learning
3. Ability to get along with all students and teachers
4. Minimum grade point average (or equivalent) of 2.5
5. Honesty
Criteria for Teacher of the Month Selection
1. Quality communication with staff, students, and parents
2. Extra effort and participation beyond the required
3. Team spirit
4. Teaching beyond subject matter
5. Enthusiasm and positive attitude
The proposed Student of the Year and Teacher of the Year awards will be based on a 100-point system composed of ten criteria (the five monthly criteria plus five additional criteria). Each criterion will be worth ten points each for a total of 100 possible points. In the event of a tie, we will extend interviews to the finalists as a tie-breaker.

4. Exceptional effort in all academic subjects (the old saying, “A for effort”)
