Our Business of the Month for February is Boutique Divas, a high-end fashion store with unique clothing and jewelry for women. It is also the home of Boutique Divas Underground, where spoken word, poetry, and art meet every other Friday. We spoke to owner Deborah Green about her business.
What do you have to offer to the community?
Boutique Divas offers a high-end selection of fashion. We specialize in carrying unique pieces that you can’t find anywhere else. It’s fun yet high-end, and you don’t have to worry about showing up at an event or party and seeing what you’re wearing on everyone else! We also have a space downstairs in which we host cultural events every other Friday. We showcase talent such as art, spoken word, and singing, and bring exposure to the community.
What have you noticed about our community?
I like that it has a small-town feel with downtown offerings. There are eateries, bistros, and boutiques that you can plan a day around. I also appreciate the Rose Parade that offers tourism through which we can share a piece of ourselves. I’ve also noticed that the community seems to be made up of a lot of artsy and creative people.
What are you most proud of?
I’m really just proud of opening Boutique Divas. It started as just a thought. I used to be an account executive for a healthcare company for 22 years. I had dabbled in fashion before, and when I got laid off, I decided to open a shop for the community. So I’m proud of just having established my business and getting my line out to the community and providing a place for people to showcase their talents.
What message would you like to communicate to Altadena?
That Boutique Divas is here on Green Street, and it’s definitely a must-see place where fashion, art, and poetry meet! It’s also a place where they can experience the lost art of customer service. We pamper the customer and expose them to a new experience.
Note: The businesses we feature support the Student and Teacher of the Month Programs, which in turn encourages better teachers and students. By supporting these businesses, we support our children, and we ultimately reduce crime in our community by encouraging education as opposed to other activities that they may get involved in. These businesses do not pay for this “advertising” – we simply feature them in order to support local businesses that support our teachers and students.
